1) Who is eligible for the COVID-19 vaccination?

  • Anyone 12 and older is eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccination
From August 9

As of June 28, vaccination tickets have been mailed to all Urasoe citizens ages 13 to 64.
Tickets will be mailed to current 12 year olds the month before they turn 13.

 

2) Vaccination roll-out dates

There are two types of vaccination roll-outs in Urasoe City: group (at a designated public location) and individual (at a designated hospital).
Currently, the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are being administered to residents.

Group vaccinations

Group vaccination schedule
From August 9, anyone 12 and older may make a reservation.
There are no current openings for August reservations. Please wait until dates for September are released to make a reservation.

  • Appointments are for Saturdays (14:30~17:30) and Sundays (9:00~12:00, 14:30~17:30).
  • The group vaccination venue will be at the Urasoe Culture Park Multilevel Parking Lot (near Urasoe Art Museum and AIM Universe Tedako Hall).
  • When making an appointment, dates for both the 1st and 2nd shot will be included.
  • About 500 shots are prepared for Saturdays while 1,000 shots are prepared for Sundays.

 The Urachan mini community bus is offering free service for those who will receive the group vaccinations. You can make an appointment by calling 098-875-0250.

3) How to make an appointment

In Urasoe City

For group vaccinations:

  • Appointments include the date and time for both the 1st and 2nd shot. Please make sure you can go to both appointments.
  • Those who require a wheelchair may request one by calling the Call Center.

  1. Wait for the COVID-19 vaccination notification notice[PDF:1MB] in the mail. The vaccination ticket and a health questionnaire will be attached (see images below). 
  2. Confirm that you are part of the roll-out group.
  3. Search for a group vaccination or individual vaccination location.
  4. Call the Vaccination Call Center at 0570-057023 or visit the online reservation site (JP only*) to make an appointment.

* In order to use machine translation on the online reservation site, you must use Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge as your web browser. Click the translate icon on the address bar and select the target language.

In regional vaccination centers

Please refrain from using more than 1 appointment system (ex. Use either the Urasoe City appointment system or use the regional vaccine center appointment system. Do NOT use both.

Details Vaccinations for those 18 and older who have received their municipal vaccine tickets are eligible to make reservations at a regional vaccination center.
In order to prevent double booking, only those who have not received their 1st shot may make an appointment.

The 2nd shot will take place at the same location as the 1st shot. Details about the 2nd shot will be provided when you go to receive your 1st shot.
You must wait 4 weeks before taking the 2nd shot.

 

4) Receiving a shot in a different municipality

Per policy, COVID-19 vaccines will be administered to individuals in the municipality they reside in. If you wish to receive a shot in a different municipality, please obtain certification from your municipality of residence to do so. Certification will be issued as a form that must be presented to reception with your vaccine ticket. Additionally, hospitalized patients and patients receiving treatment for underlying conditions may receive the vaccine without certification.

5) For lost or misplaced vaccination tickets

If you lose or misplace your vaccination ticket, please call the Urasoe Health Consultation Center (098-875-2100)

 

6) On the day of your shot

  1. The receptionist will check your temperature, ID, and ask you to fill in your health questionnaire
  2. Staff will check your health questionnaire
  3. Staff will check your condition and see if you have any pre-existing conditions
  4. Staff will administer the shot
  5. Due to reactions such as anaphylactic shock or fainting, you will be asked to stay for a short period of time to monitor your condition
  6. You will receive a sticker that shows the date and location of your shot

 


About the COVID-19 vaccine

This vaccine is free of charge as part of a project initiated by the Japanese government and local governing bodies. Read and check the attached flyer sent out via mail, and submit the attached "COVID-19 Vaccination Ticket" before the day of your shot. Make sure to also bring a form of ID (residence card, driver's license, health insurance card, etc.) and wear a short-sleeve shirt to your appointment.

Vaccine effects

This vaccine administered over 2 doses and is reported to be 95% effective. The vaccine aids in preventing symptoms such as fever and coughing. (The influenza shot is 40 ~ 60% effective.)

As more individuals are vaccinated, critical patients and deaths are expected to decrease in addition to relieving some of the burden on hospitals.

How the vaccine is administered

(Effectiveness and safety has not yet been confirmed for those under 16 years of age.)
Dosage amount 0.3ml per shot

Generally, both shots are administered into the shoulder muscle. After receiving the first shot, please wait for 3 weeks before getting the second shot. (However, please get the second shot as soon as possible after 3 weeks have passed.)

Make sure to use the same vaccine for both shots.

Reactions to the shot

  • Although rare, cases of anaphylactic shock (allergic reactions such as rash, stomach ache, vomiting, difficulty breathing, etc.) have been reported. All vaccination sites are prepared with medication in the case of allergic reations.
  • If you feel any pain in the area of the shot, tiredness, head ache, or chills after receiving the shot, these symptoms are likely to fade after a couple days.
  • As with all new vaccines, there is a chance for new unreported symptoms to develop. If any concerning symptoms develop after receiving the shot, consult with your doctor or call the prefectural call center.

For those taking anticoagulant medication (blood thinners)

You are able to receive the vaccine. Please monitor for bleeding after receiving your shot.

Cautions after receiving your shot

Apply pressure to the shot area for over 2 minutes.

  • If you develop a swollen arm or feelings of numbness, consult with a doctor.
  • There is no need to stop any medication you are currently taking.

Anticoagulant drugs used to treat arrhythmia, thrombosis, or used as post-surgery medication.
